  • Enhances flexibility and range of motion.
  • More pressure with less discomfort

  • There is typically less inflammation and soreness post-massage compared to deep neuromuscular work
  • Provides a sense of balance and well-being.

Ashi/atsu
Ashi=foot
atsu=pressure

Ashiatsu massage is particularly beneficial for those who prefer deep tissue work or have chronic muscle tension, as it can access deeper layers of muscle tissue more effectively than traditional hands-on techniques. Despite the use of feet, Ashiatsu massage can be customized to suit each client's individual needs and preferences, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience. Ashiatsu massage offers a unique and therapeutic approach to bodywork, providing profound relaxation and relief from muscle tension, all while promoting a sense of balance and well-being.

AFTERCARE

After receiving an Ashiatsu session, your back muscles will be very loose and vulnerable. This increases the risk of injury or acute muscle spasms post-massage.

Please take the following precautions for the first 24-48 hours after an Ashiatsu treatment:

Avoid the following:

Sitting for long periods: Ashiatsu elongates the spine and creates structural changes. Avoid compressing the spine for 24 hours post-treatment to maintain the benefits.

Lifting heavy objects: The lumbar region is vulnerable post-treatment. Lifting heavy objects within the first 48 hours could cause inflammation, pain, or injury. If lifting is necessary, consider using a lumbar brace for support.

Contact sports or exercises: Avoid activities that involve twisting for 48 hours post-massage (e.g., golf, baseball, skiing, CrossFit, kickboxing). These activities increase the risk of over-rotation, which could lead to rib dysfunction, inflammation, or injury.

Intense physical exercise: Light activities like walking and yoga are acceptable.

Drinking heavy alcohol (24 hours): Alcohol and Ashiatsu do not mix well. Alcohol causes dehydration, and Ashiatsu helps flush the body's system. To avoid intense lactic acid hangover symptoms, refrain from drinking alcohol after a session.

Recommended Actions:

Hydrate: Drink plenty of water (half your body weight in ounces) for 24-48 hours to help flush your system.

Stretch: Passive stretching and light yoga are beneficial post-treatment.

Hydrotherapy: Heat therapy (e.g., Epsom salt baths, hot springs, sauna, hot tubs) is ideal for stiffness and soreness, while cold therapy (e.g., ice packs, ice cups, cold dunks) is best for pain and inflammation. Alternating hot and cold treatments can be effective, ending with cold.

Address histamine release: Itching may occur due to a chemical reaction in the tissue. Apply ice to the affected area and drink plenty of water to aid in detoxification. If the itching sensation is widespread, it may be an allergic reaction to the massage cream or oil.

Rest and recover: Allow your body to rest for 24 hours post-session to maximize the benefits of Ashiatsu.
